Welcome!

Welcome! This blog is about the Christian County, Missouri friendship quilt that was passed down to me from family members. It was created circa 1937 for Julia Delima Marcy Boatwright by friends and relatives. Julia passed the quilt down to her daughter, Lucille, then Lucille's daughter passed it down to me. I am researching the quilt and those who contributed to the quilt and will post my findings on the blog. I have taken photos of each square of the quilt, which I will be posting in the blog. Also, I have a second Christian County friendship quilt that was passed down to me. The second quilt was made circa 1944. I will also write about it, after I finish the first quilt's blog!

                     Mamie Emma Rhoda Boatwright Burnett
Mamie Emma Rhoda Boatwright Burnett was the sister-in-law of Julia Marcy Boatwright. She lived in Cloud County, Kansas, so she probably made the quilt square and mailed it, or else she made the square while visiting Jim and Julia Boatwright in Christian County, Missouri.

Mamie was born on 7 April, 1884 to Alexander Christopher and Mary Etta Jane (Beamon) Boatwright in Marysville, Marshall County, Kansas. She married Ralph Burnett, and they had the following children: Louise Mamie, Ralph Lewis, Melvin Charles, Raymond Pearl, Leslie Lorean, and Christopher Henry Burnett. Mamie's husband, Ralph, passed away in 1918, so Mamie was a single mother of her five children.

She was  a member of First Christian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mamie passed away in November 1977 and is buried in the Glasco Cemetery in Glasco, Cloud County, Kansas. Her husband and 4 children preceded her in death. She was survived by Louise Mamie, who passed away in 2003.
